Tripod Charlotte Perriand Les Arcs stool

Charlotte Perriand has always had a passion for the mountains and will collaborate on many projects in the Alps. In 1938/1939, with Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier, she sketched the project of a winter sports resort at the Col de Vars. She took part in equipping the first hotels in Méribel/les/Allues, work that she continued after the war, but it was with the design of Les Arcs that she achieved her greatest achievement. This complex operation of urban planning and architecture in virgin site is the one that mobilized her the most and the longest, since she devoted twenty years of her life to it, between 1967 and 1989. The resort of Les Arcs is based on the principles of the “high mountain leisure zone” developed in the pioneering pre-war period to respond to the concerns of an affluent society confronted with the new needs arising from mass leisure activities. “Leisure for all” is the project on which Charlotte Perriand has worked continuously.
