Sideboard by Pierre Guariche

Pierre Guariche (1926 – 1995) is a mythical French designer of the 20th century. His design combining aesthetics and mass production. Born in 1926, he studied at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) at the age of 19. After graduating in 1949, he began an internship with Marcel Gascoin. He published his first models alone, and exhibited them at the Salon des Arts Ménagers and at the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. Later, he created furniture and decorative objects for different brands such as the MAI gallery or the companies Airborne, Pierre Disderot and Steiner.

Pierre Guariche also worked with two other famous decorators, Michel Mortier and Joseph André Motte, to found the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (ARP) in 1954. He then creates furniture sets for Charles Minvielle. In 1957, Pierre Guariche became head of the furniture section of the Belgian company Meurop and gradually turned towards interior design. He received the René Gabriel prize in 1965 and took part in the development of the La Plagne winter resort and the Firminy hospital.
